elephants?
Gday lads.
Ive fished westernport for 25years. Used to hear of elephants everywhere. They were a pain. Got in the way of good fish. Attacked good baits not designed for them...
i liked catching them when i was 10. They were the biggest fish i could wheel in by myself because they were fairly docile.
However with the bag limits going to 1 pp and the fact you basically have to go to rhyll or corinella to get 1 turned me off as i launch from hastings.
Which brings me to my post. I have 2 boys who i took to the aquarium. They saw the elephants in the pond and the way they swam was almost playful. When i told them ive caught them before theu didnt believe me.
I promised my 5 year old ill catch 1 for him this weekend. I havent fished for them for about 15 years... are they still in the same area? I wish i hadnt sounded so confident in getting 1 for him. Ive heard of no reports and i havent been out for 6 weeks due to work...
I used to go on a site called fishing westernport but its dead now. The owner of the site has gone strange and i cant be reliably informed about anything there anymore. Any tips would be appreciated

Re: elephants?
Yes they are around, not uncommon around merricks/ balnarring. Though I believe the top end, around Corinella is the better spot to target them.

Re: elephants?
I always found the most elephants in shallower water 3 to 6 mt. The shallow reefs between corinella and rhyll but its getting a bit late for them.

Re: elephants?
I've caught Elephants off the Beach at Balnarring.
I caught 2 this weekend just off Tenby in 2.5 metres of water.
The weekend before that closer to Jam Jerrup. I let them go as I'm the only one who eats them and I prefer the taste of gummies.

Give Tenby Point or Lang Lang a go land based over high tide. You're a chance at a gummy at either place too.

Re: elephants?
Plenty stealing pippies along the spit. If you're launching Hastings, save the drive and stop ontop of the western tip of tortoise bank in around 6m of water. Atleast if you get some it's less fuel used
