Melbourne fishing compared to other places you've lived?
I just thought I would throw this one out there, because I am really curious?
How does the fishing in Melbourne (Exclusively Land Based and in PPB and the rivers) compare to other coastal places you have lived around of the world?
Is it me- Melbourne pretty tough?

You don't want to know. Tbh.
I've only ever fished sydney waters and its sooooooo much better. Part of the reason is the warmer waters.
Almost any Beach down there you get dart, whiting, bream and tailor. Plus nit to metion kings and mulloway in most areas around the cbd in sydney
As you get closer to the nsw border along the coast (ie-gippsland etc) the fishing gets a lot better.

As far as I can tell with the exception of snapper and squid Melbourne is pretty much the hardest major city to catch fish land based within a day trip of.

I used to live near blackpool on the north west coast of england I reckon the saltwater fishing in melbourne is great compared to there. If you caught a fish from the grey murky water it would be small and probably glow in the dark

In NZ, you can get bait at the beaches. 1 beach you can get cockels, pipi's that are the size of your palm and another beach for sandworms. The fishing conditions there are easier than here in Melbourne, i've only learnt of the Paternoster Rig here in Melbourne, and in NZ we use the normal tie a loop and feed the hook on and you catch fish. I've taken the Pasternoster rig when I go home every now and then and I catch triple the amount of fish.

Coming from Perth fishing here is WAY harder.
No where near the variety, size or quality.
Having said that the major difference is structure. Perth waters have large amounts of reef structure.
If you can catch fish in Melbourne you can catch fish anywhere.
Hardest place I've ever fished.

How does Tassie go for saltwater fishing? Does the colder water make it slower than Melbourne?

Re: Melbourne fishing compared to other places you've lived?
A lot of it comes down to the ocean currents. The EAC goes down to the east coast of tassi and there is quite a lot of reef fish that are normally caught on the NSW coast.
Similar for south Tassi and Tuna passing by.
Corner Inlet is the hardest place I have fished, whilst I love it down there and there can be some great fishing, fishing in WPB or PPB is soo easy in comparison.
