First time fishing in Melbourne.

Post by JackBomback » Mon Sep 25, 2017 1:26 pm

First time posting too!

Went fishing on the Nong yesterday afternoon after purchasing some tackle from the Braybrook BCF, a chap there really sorted me out with a good soft plastic to use and an entry-level-but-decent Rod and Reel.

I tried my luck in Edgewater before casting under the bridge over where the lake leaks out into the river. No cigar there though so I walked downstream, towards the road bridge. I decided to cast in while I walked and before you know it I was onto something.

I later worked out it was a yellow eye mullet :)

See pic below.

Anyway I'm pretty new to Melbourne, and extremely new to the fishing scene here so I wanted to get involved with this forum as soon as possible!

Welcome to the site, my best bream catches from the Nong have been in November... if you want to cover more ground a canoe or Kayak is perfect for that wind protected river.
He who has the most fishing rods WINS ! :ts:

G'day and welcome mate, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Of course mate, I'm not sure of the exact name of the plastic (I'll have a look later) but it was a shiny/glittery yellow grub. I used 1/16th jig heads.

Can't wait to get on there again this weekend, I think I'll try between Footscray road bridge and Farmsworth Ave.

Could you elaborate on what exactly a Squidgy DVD is?
