Has anyone won one of those boats from previous tea tree comps before?

Probably because more fished WP aiming for the big fish compared to PPB. Considering its common knowledge the bigger fish generally are caught in WP. I spoke to Launching Way on Monday, they were VERY quiet on Friday and Saturday compared to previous years.
Compare that to Stony Point full, Warneet close to full, Hastings almost to the marina in overflow by 9am, Corinella very close to full on the Friday morning.

So of course majority of fish will come from WP when the majority of comp anglers are fishing WP. Has nothing to do with pros/no pros

From what I've heard from a few fish mongers, commercial fishos, etc that have been interviewed the bulk of the fish taken from the bay are bait species. Red mullet, etc etc. they all reckon stopping netting will increase long lining which actually targets table fish that us Rec fishos are chasing.

Im really interested to see if there will be any noticeable change to the fishery above and beyond the typical variations in yearly spawning success.

Big picture.

Most snapper commercially caught in VIC are caught in bass strait.

Most snapper caught in VIC are by rec fisho, more than double what is caught by commercial fishos.

Netters catch a very small % of the total snapper caught so the impact of netters is minimal.

What is much more important on snapper stocks is the success of the spawning which is highly dependent on environmental factors such as water quality.

So why is WPB possibly better for snapper this year. This year has been very odd, ocean currents water temps noticeably different to recent years. Think about all the SBT Tuna caught only weeks ago in locations they hadn't been caught for 35 years and at the wrong time of year.

When the warm water did arrive it came in as a surge with fast current from SA and didn't last long outside the bays. Due to WPB having a lot greater water exchange than PPB a lot more warm ocean water went into WPB than PPB.

This is probably why WPB is possibly fishing better for snapper this year which has nothing to do with the netters.

The primary target of commercial fishos is KGW, Southern Calamari and Flathead.

They catch a few other species as by catch such as gars, flounder, snapper, leatherjacket, salmon ect as well as bait fish but they are all small amounts compared with the three species above.

Do you want to know the total of cars through launching ways gates Friday morning? 25! Arguably the biggest ramp in Victoria during the biggest comp in Victoria had only 25 boats through the gates at what should be a peak time.

But **** it, open Point Addis and other marine parks because you/"us" benefit from that too? Who gives a **** about marine protection (perceived or otherwise) because we're rec fishos and we deserve everything.

Reduce our bag limits and THAT will get you more fish. Considering us recs account for over 3/4 of total biomass removed from PPB annually.

Do some bloody research and not just sprout ignorant bull

Interesting discussion...

On a whole, PPB has a fairly lifeless seabed, with little reef or structure, hence why artificial reefs are being put in. This is not an issue with WP, as it is full structure. Guess what, snapper love structure! This has much more to do with why this body of water fishes better for a larger class of reds, and has done so forever. It's only now that fishos are starting to realise this fact.
