That's true as well doug but like most of the people with higher scores last time we all did both salt and fresh to get a decent score. If someone was only doing fresh, it would be a miracle for them to win anything. How I see the comp... Is that it gives you sometime to target if you haven't and if you have, to try and beat ur pb. Winning would be a bonus!! I know I have a pb reddy now lol
I agree entirely.

I think all my salt water scores this year were pb s

Colour me in too.

Nice to see a fishing comp that genuinely tests fishing skill, that can't be won by some idiot luckbox with a $50,000 toy and a beer in his hand :bounce:

When ducky did the first one eighteen months ago I said exactly the same thing. I don't think there is a better test of the all round angler. My goal this year is to put twenty scores on the board.

The idea behind the top total. Top fresh and top salt was to include the guys that don't have access to salt or vice versa.

In reality it probably excluded more than it included. I reckon 1st 2nd and 3rd is the way to go.

So i've received a few pms on the issue as well as the discussion that has gone on in here.

I think cash prizes for 1st 2nd 3rd overall are the way to go. distribute 50-30-20 for 1st -2nd-3rd.

In addition to that i'll approach a few shops / distributors i've got to know to see if they would like to donate non cash prizes for best fresh score, best salt score, and anyone who puts 20 scores on the board. If anyone has any connections or would like to make a donation to this prize pool please let me know.

Bottom line on prizes is no matter what gets decided someone will be unhappy. The concept behind this comp was to determine who is the best all round angler, not who was the best in salt or fresh. Overall scores are a better indication of overall skill.

I'll update the original post when i get home tomorrow. Quick reminder that we will begin midday on Saturday July 4th and I will post the codeword then.

A big thumbs up to Aaron75 who has already put his money where mouth is.

I might give it a crack. Why aren't toadfish on the list of species?

I dont' know if you were around when we had the two discussions about which species should and shouldn't be involved, but they were in depth, and long.

There are a few more things i'd like see on the list, but i think the two sets of 10 species balance pretty well. We're missing kingfish, gummies and garfish but honestly, there just aren't enough targetable fresh water fish. I think the balance is just right.

In good news, I have had two offers for best fresh and salt length via pm in the 2 hours or so since I mentioned it.
