Seeing recommendations for 1/0 KL suicide hook for Whiting - it seems quite large?
I use 3/0 KL for pinkies / snapper - this size isn't much bigger.

Most of the time I use a No4 Daiichi Hook Long Shank in Red only as the brown ones rust very quickly ,about 50 cents per hook.Japan made
Sometimes use a Black Magic 1/0 Circle Hooks
I dont use No6 hooks as the fish seem to wriggle off too easy
I was using Mustad hooks but found out later that they were starting to bend very easy and when tried to straighten them they would break-Probably China made

Thanks Denis, I'm a passive fisho with bait (ie bait rod is secondary while I flick SP's) so suicides are the go - might just stick with the 1/0 KL, think they'll even be large enough for pinkies and flatties as by-catch.

I'd rate the Black Magic 1/0 KL's for kgw, they're a nice general size for both your kgw but also by-catch, flatties, etc.
I always go the ~$23 52 economy pack, ends up around 50c a hook also.

KL 1/0 is good for whiting, but I find it only good to catch bigger sized kgw (more quality than quantity). Long shank hook is easier to catch all size kgw (more quantity).

I'd imagine the smaller long shank would pick up other smaller undesirables too...

Thanks for clarifying this everyone :tu:

That's right.
So usually I start with 1/0 KL. And when desperate for not landing any but getting nibbles, I change to long shank. Pulling something is better than donut. Even a toadie will do. Lol.

For me i use a size 4 master pro (el cheapo) circle hook, i get em from bait and tackle direct for a few bucks , work perfectly, the KGW hook themselves , i quite often get 37cm size or there abouts pinkies as bycatch as well
