How do I find whiting?

Post by BenT » Sun Nov 18, 2018 7:33 pm

Hey everyone! When trying to find whiting is it better to pick a depth and move along the bank at the same depth? Or should I be going up and down the bank (shallow to deep) and covering the bank in a zig zag pattern?

I never seem to have luck finding any save a couple of times on the side of the channels! We've tried Quail bank and we usually pick a weed patch and fish the sand along the edge, never had much luck that way!

They are hard to find.

Drifting helps cover ground and drop the anchor when you find them.

I try to find a school on the sounder possible if you have a decent sounder.

Or find a likely spot and use burley to bring the fish to you.

Easiest method I found when learning to find whiting was to anchor on the edge of a channel/bank and fish the run out tide either moving along the channel/bank or sitting in the spot for a while and burley up. I personally never done to well looking for sand patches.
