3 weeks ago the tides were fast so i fished shallow. Last weekend the tides were dead so i fished between 20 and 40 foot of water so that there was a bit of tidal flow.
I caught most of my fish about 100 meters south of bouy 17 on saturday night

2 weeks ago they were firing around rosebud reef in about 8 meters. I had one great session on them in Sorrento in about 4 meters too but then couldn't find them again in another 4 efforts around the same spot.

Anywhere there is weed and sand patches is worth a go. You'll know if they are around within 10 mins or so. If not, move and try again. Pippi/squid cocktail is the go for bait.

My neighbour swears in 2 meters or less for WPB, I managed only one last time I went out. Thinking of giving it a crack in 5-8m of water next time out from yaringa, 'least that way the toad won't smash the bait so quickly.

In mid coast NSW I've had smashing sessions on the Whiting in 30 to 60cm of crystal clear water over the sand and snorkeled in schools of them in the gutters off the beaches in 50cm to 2m. They will happily go shallow but I've never fished for them down here land based. I think it's easier not to spook them in slightly deeper water by boat so tend to go 3m plus. I usually just haunt the squid grounds in the Sandy patches. But I'm no expert on Whiting (or much else for that matter)

Fish anything from .5 m upwards. The shallower you fish the quieter you must be.
