Re: Whiting Essentials
From what I've learned chasing them on bait, the tidal phase is very important. They seem to often only bite just before and after the slack. Look for them in places you'd find squid
Re: Whiting Essentials
I know you said plastics, but little whiting snatchers with Pipi's have been lethal for me..

Re: Whiting Essentials
The guy on vyak who cleaned up on whiting using SPs would work little shrimp style plastics along the edge of weed/grass beds in places like Reef Island. No idea what tide was best for him though
I have only ever targeted them using bait though.

Re: Whiting Essentials
just something i want to try mate. im usually fishing light lures most of the time so my outfits are all geared for that style fishing.Only with plastics mate? Not with bait?
i do have heavier stuff though
Thanks man ill have to work with that, ive had some success squidding from mt martha areas ill have a go there. From what I've learned chasing them on bait, the tidal phase is very important. They seem to often only bite just before and after the slack. Look for them in places you'd find squid
yeah no pipis thanks,I know you said plastics, but little whiting snatchers with Pipi's have been lethal for me..
but ill be trying a few diffetent methods and a snatcher with some plastics on it will be an option as well.

Re: Whiting Essentials
Steve, I've only ever caught one whiting on a plastic. One night the sea-lice were destroying squid strips in a matter of seconds so I put a Gulp Sandworm on a KL 1/0 circle hook to try something different. I think the colour was Natural or New Penny: http://www.anglerswarehouse.com.au/prod ... _inch_4776
*Edit: cut it in half!

the sandworm is on my list, just that even cut in half they will tailgrab most of the time, and without a stinger its a hit and miss. when lure fishing.
im more after a general location to try and target them. i can manage the lure side of things
but nver knew what tide, areas they frequent etc.
thanks for the info though.
cheers

Re: Whiting Essentials
Look for them on the edge of reef and sand.. parkdale was a ripper spot... rowed out in a zodiac and anchored using a 2lt bottle filled with concrete...aways got a few...but that was a few years back
