Re: docklands
Yeah all good lads - thanks for asking. Usually have a six year old in tow when I fish these days so haven’t flicked the banks or dunked the docks for a while. He has a tendency to fall over things and into things :) Actually haven’t done all that much fishing last year. Was usually going down the b...

Re: Circle hooks, braid, mono, baitrunners?
Haha - I was waiting for that :) You know what though - fishing with bait has been a lot of fun and quite honestly I think there’s more to it than I initially thought. I’ve actually really enjoyed applying what I’ve learned through lure fishing to bait. Knowing where and when you should be somewhere...

Re: School whiting?
Can’t say I’m up on the different type of whiting but is this one …?
Got that off one of the piers in Williamstown before the lockdown kicked in. Was pretty surprised at the bycatch - enough to take a pic and send it to a few mates with a wtf

Re: Disappointing opening to carp season (covid edition)
Did you use the baitfeeders too at Cherry lake? I had one baitfeeder with me. I initially got a tiny 500 sized ceymar baitfeeder which I’ve been using for bream in the nong. Turned out to be a lot of fun and a nice contrast to lure fishing all the time. So since then I’ve got a 2500 penn fierce III...

Carp Diem
After ten years or so of just chasing bream on lures around the city I started doing a bit of bait fishing … mainly to spend a bit more time with the kids .. they like to burley up and pull anything they can get in … not so keen on trudging banks, flicking lures at fussy fish. I’ve had heaps of fun ...

Re: Yarra river Bream on SP's
As Sebb said drop your leader to 4lb (banks) or 6lb (docks/pylons). Year round breamin in the CBD you can get away with four lures: 40mm blade 30-40mm shallow diving hardbody 2 or 2.5” zman grub Strike pro micro vibe You can add to the above but quite honestly I’d be confident fishing year round in ...

Re: Yarra river Bream on SP's
Roughly what area of the Yarra are you fishing? I mainly fish CBD and the Nong - for the Yarra I was mainly downstream of crown …. Fairly sure the middle and upper brackish sections of the Yarra would fish like the nong though. As sebb mentioned above - our estuary is a salt wedge estuary so in our ...

Re: Yarra river Bream on SP's
Yeah - as you get better and know how to watch the line and when a slight twitch or a drop-back indicates a bite I think that makes sense. Using the reel to hop it and keeping it on a fairly tight line is useful when starting off as it will catch fish, it removes the confidence factor of wondering i...
