Re: Bream slot limit

Well this is going to be hilarious most people I run into including fisheries officers don't even know the difference between a Southern blue spot flathead or a dusky let alone the differences between a yellowfin bream and a black bream . This is always in my mind when catching bluespot offshore, t...

Paynesville Report

Hi everyone, I went out from Paynesville yesterday morning to have another go at the whiting. I fished around the Carstairs Bank area, after a few moves I found the whiting, however, they were pretty small, only 25 - 30cm. After about 4 hours and plenty of throw backs, I ended up with 6 keepers. It ...

Another go at the KG Whiting from Paynesville

With the excellent settled autumn weather and the holiday crowds thinning out a bit it was time to get the boat back in the water so I went out from Paynesville this morning for another go at the KG whiting. Out at 8.00am, in at 10.15 am with 10 whiting. The first one I caught was 38 cm or so which ...

An old map showing the original entrance down near Lake Bunga. The entrance channel was through what is now the golf club and sewerage treatment works. The town of Cunningham was where Robin Street and Golf links Rd is. An early report talks about house of Cunningham getting washed into the entrance...

Re: The original Lakes Entrance

Another early map showing the entrance near sperm whale head. If you think this is someone just drawing something that didn't exist. Take a look on Google Earth and you can see a number of entrance scours.

Gummies at the Pines

Slipped out on a nice calm morning for a go at the Pines. Just 2nm from the bar, 15-20 MTRS, drifting. I was hopeful for a few flatties. Caught quite a lot of small ones plus a couple of keepers. Then one rod bent over and started taking line ,big time. The brake was on a bit too much and I was stru...

More KG Whiting form Paynesville

Hi all, I went out from Paynesville around 8.00am this morning to have another go at the KG whiting. At the first spot I tried, not a touch, I moved and again not a touch, after 5 or so moves this was becoming very familiar, then I decided to have a go in the shallower areas, 1.6m or so and the bite...

Re: Gummies at the Pines

Wind drift is the killer, so use a drogue. Tide drift is not so much issue, as you and the burly smell, move together with the tide. Issues you have with anchoring is that you don't catch as many flatties and your burley will drift a long way from you. Anchoring while fishing is for when you have a ...

Re: Mixed bag

Fished Nungurner on Tues and caught a similar mixed bag. Probably 20 or so KGW. Kept 9 KGW and returned a few others of size along with some gurnard as I didnt need to keep them for the freezer. Also fished the same spot today with a mate and was pleased to get 10 species all up. Most undersize but ...
