Re: Trout lures/flies discussion

Hi Seb Some of the other posts have highlighted seasonal changes in lure selection. What also needs to be considered is the type of water, eg small stream, larger rivers and lakes. There are, in particular, some flies well suited to certain waters, eg willow grubs for the Goulburn. In terms of dry f...

Re: Trout lures/flies discussion

Do you think it is possible the bright colors may represent the spawning colors of trout and that may then trigger the agression strike you are talking about. Maybe that is what you are saying anyway. I also like using orange when fishing around spawning time as me thinks the fishies may mistake it...

Re: Edge rods.

personal opinion and feel of the said rod goes a long way for some. I would back P5 100% with his comment. I have had the opportunity of using a number of Loomis Rods, Wilson Venoms, high end fly rods and over the years reached the conclusion that most of the time good mid range rods match them and...

As I indicated recently in my 2019 boof thread I had an issue develop with my Tranx 301 baitcaster. On my way home from that trip I called in at Boats and More in Shepparton and had a long chat with Terry Phillips. Terry is a wealth of information having caught a lot of big cod, barra up north and b...

Re: Boof Diary 2019

Will you continue to fish right through until the closed season Jim, if the weather is good I might head up to the Murray the week after next. That might be it. I tend to give the cod a rest after early June, leave them alone to prepare for spawning. If there is some nice weather I might start scou...

Re: The search for perch.

Learn the FG and do it well quickly even if you forget your glasses and get your expensive lures back re-rig that lure. The FG not can be a bit tricky. I bought one of these which has helped me a lot to tie better knots: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Daiichiseiko-Knot-Assist-2-0-Joins-Braided-Line-To...

Re: The search for perch.

Great report RB - this is the sort of information which members look to so as to improve our sport. Not 'secret spots' but strategies techniques and tackle. A key message is persistence not just on the day but over time. EPs will become an even more important sportfish with their stocking in impound...
