We went out there on Wednesday. It was ridiculously calm. Ended up east of Halibut rig in 500mtrs. Didn't do any good. Still a steep learning curve for us. That is out thrid trip in 2 years. We had a few trips out last year, hooked up twice first was a monstrous thing. 5 and a half hours on the rod...

Be next season before we head out again I reckon. It's a very technical form of fishing, there's a shitload involved, but it is very exciting. It's a very technical form of fishing, there's a shitload involved, but it is very exciting. I reckon one of the main issues is simply how bloody far from land it us.

Braid- Tasline and wft Hooks-Baitfidshing, Gama, Hardbody and metal lures- Decoy and Shout! Skirted lures- Pakula Dojo or Owner Jobu. Had the odd failure with Gama's, but on the whole, they're very good. Decoy jigging singles and Shout! Are bullet proof. Pakula's and Owner Jobu again, very reliable....

What I was really trying to get info about was your experiences of what it's like out in Bass Strait AFTER getting through the Heads. I have a 7 metre Merry Fisher. Rods are a sore point, broken stacks over the years, as Doug has mentioned, extended sessions spinning for Salmon just grinds gear down. Or spinning for anything really with long casts in salt water.
