I can vouch for the assassin popmaster, I've got the same model, great rods.

Braid- Tasline and wft Hooks-Baitfidshing, Gama, Hardbody and metal lures- Decoy and Shout! Skirted lures- Pakula Dojo or Owner Jobu. Had the odd failure with Gama's, but on the whole, they're very good. Decoy jigging singles and Shout! Are bullet proof. Pakula's and Owner Jobu again, very reliable....

John Dory- simply fantastic.
Kingfish -Sashimi or fried, bloody awesome.
King George whiting.
Flatty
Garfish-bizarrely, best sashimi I've tried.

Thanks for the advice guys about getting out through the Rip ... very helpful. What I was really trying to get info about was your experiences of what it's like out in Bass Strait AFTER getting through the Heads. I have a 7 metre Merry Fisher.
