Re: Who's braving the weekend heat to fish?

No fekkin' way - I've been boarded-up indoors with the air-con cranked-up to 11!

Question: What does "1+1" bearings mean in a reel?

Hi guys, I can't seem to find an answer to this using Google, so this is probably my next best bet! :-) I have a couple of reels that are stated as having: "1+1" bearings or "6+1" bearings. I know what a ball-bearing is and have looked at the schematics for the reels, but can only find a single bear...

Re: Too Many Rods??

I have - let me think - 7 rods and I think that's a couple too many! My current collection is: 1 x 3.6m light/medium surf-rod 1 x 3.6m heavy surf rod 1 x 1.7m baitcaster 1 x 1.6m light spinning 1 x 1.7m medium boat-rod (spinning) 1 x 1.7m medium boat rod (overhead) 1 x 2m general purpose/light beach...

Re: Left Hand or Right Hand ?

How many right-handers use a left-handed baitcast reel?

Fishing with bait-casters probably requires the most deft control of the rod, but I rarely see anyone using a left-hand wind reel...

Hmm...

Re: Left Hand or Right Hand ?

Me too. Tried the other way, but just far too awkward and uncomfortable. Cast right, change rod to left and wind with the right is the most common form I thought? Thats what I do anyway Yes I'm a dirty switcher. Had had the argument plenty of times with mates. It's never caused me grief even in fast...

Re: Cape Woolamai 17-Dec-2015

I use little strips of flesh filleted from salted pilchards. The downside is it's a bit soft and if you miss a bite you know the bait is gone.

The up-side is that you'll never catch a toadie!

Cape Woolamai 17-Dec-2015

I made another trip down to the Island on Wednesday - probably my last until the nightmare of the holiday season is over. The forecast wasn't too good and it was blowing a gale when I arrived. After mowing the lawns I didn't bother with yaks, rods or any distractions like that. I took the camera and...

Re: Advice on a 6000-8000 sized reel for under $100...

Well, it arrived safe and sound this morning. Haven't had a chance to spool it, or put it on a rod.

Looks and feels very solid and not too heavy.

Oh, and the braid that came with it is 8-carrier :-)

Cheers,

Mike.

Re: Advice on a 6000-8000 sized reel for under $100...

I've used the Rovex stuff before (Air-Strike) and always buy cheaper braid and have never really had any issues when casting. I don't think I've ever spent more than $15 on a 300m spool. The Aldi stuff is quite good too.

I'll give it a try out this week and see how it goes.

Cheers,

Mike.

Re: Advice on a 6000-8000 sized reel for under $100...

Well, after a quick hands-on test-drive of both reels I went with the Fin-Nor LT60, which was $109 with a free 300m spool of braid. The Penn SSV 6500 was a very nice reel, but the cheaper price of the Fin-Nor, plus the more compact size sealed the deal. I already have an LT100, and it's amazing how ...
