Re: Any idea what fish this is?

yeah not tasty, but if you chuck it in a curry or something where it's fine for it to just much up a bit, at least it's protein. and if you get into a bunch of them, you can catch them pretty easily...

Re: eden land based.

I fished eden wharf just before christmas, caught loads of micro pinkies, a gurnard and an octopus on fresh mussels (taken off the pier) as bait. you'll need an NSW fishing license...

Re: 5kg Mulloway

Yeah it is Greg! But in saying that if I caught one I'd have to let it go just such an amazing fish and I wouldn't feel right Cam They're pretty quick growing though (at least they are up here in NSW) so as long as the juveniles are released to grow up and breed before being caught, they're a prett...

Re: Queenscliff Flatties

yep CYCQ = cruising yach club queenscliff. You're not allowed onsite unless you're a member or visitor, has something to do with sharing the island with the SAS but it's rubbish for fishing the cut because of the rocks, just nice to access that little beach and to fish for trevally back into swan ba...

Re: Phillip Island Aus Day weekend

cleeland bight, walk the path through the dunes from the surf club and give it a go, squid, whiting, flathead. current isn't such a big problem and you don't need to be casting a mile off the beach, the whiting come in quite close.

Re: Queenscliff Flatties

I think that beach was the private one on the island, accessible from the CYCQ but I've caught them from that beach by the pier around that size. Anywhere from the cut down to the cliffs does pretty well when it's not too weedy.

Re: big flattie spot

I too have caught big flatties down near swan bay, more specifically off the little beaches near the cut in queenscliff. Generally fishing in shallow water with squid baits, normally fish a paternoster to get 2 baits in the water but in less than a metre of water, wouldn't really matter. Have caught...

Re: does price matter? cheap vs medium price vs top price

I've been getting to the point of throwing lighter and lighter lures, cheap gear is too rough to get any real distance on them, it helps to spend a bit. Running a gen black (139), 1000 sedona (60) and 6lb nanofil line (35) then chuck lures on top of that, it gets up there but its a good setup and i'...

Re: Flathead hotspots?

If you do head to kerferd road, and I've caught lotsa flatties there, just make sure you berley them up, and give them some time to come around. Old pilchards mushed up and dropped over the side usually bring them around and then they're yours for the taking. If there are lice around though, go home...
