Haha. I got him this little thing. Just waiting for it to come in. They are meant to take the punishment of young anglers and new rod are like $30 from the US if he breaks it so its not bad.

Good work mate, he will get into it for sure. I've got a little girl due in 4 weeks, I have a 2 year old boy who loves anything fishing. Ive ordered him his first proper rod for Christmas. Can't wait to get him his first fish.

Re: leader

Voodoo are you talking about windons? I replace mine whenever it needs it. Damaged line etc. I generally start with 1.5 rod lengths. Cut it down as it gets damaged to 1/2 rod length then retie. Or if I pop it off. Only bother retying leaders at home if I've got a big session ahead. Takes me about 4 ...

Re: Daiwa caldia 2004 vs shimano stradic 2500 ci4

Too many people get caught up in total drag capabilities of tiny spin reels with light lines for god knows what reasons. 7kg of drag is virtually horizon on a tiagra 30. You don't need that in a little reel. You lock up 2kg of drag on any rod rated less than 6kg and you're likely to break it. Your d...

The bright lines as for visibility/line management. You can watch your line clearly against the water for bite detection. You use a rod length or so (species dependent) leader of mono/fluro for the final attachment to the lure.

Re: Daiwa caldia 2004 vs shimano stradic 2500 ci4

3000 is a bit too big for plastics fishign i think, just my 2c. but try both reels on your rod and see which one suits it better not if you get the ultra thin japanese braid, a mate of mine has one and uses that very fine braid and its a perfect plastics rod. casts hb's for bream, perch etc then yo...

Re: Daiwa caldia 2004 vs shimano stradic 2500 ci4

get the caldia 2004, sell me your handle, happy days.

I'm in the same boat as purple as we spoke about. caldia is cheaper and in my mind a better reel than the ci4. I'm not saying the ci4 is bad at all, I just prefer the daiwa.
