Have you checked your guides on your rod?
One of my silicone guides cracked and split and it was fine when line was going out but cut the line like butter when retrieving

When ive seen salmon busting up, ive always stopped well short of the school and either drifted into it, or used my trolling motor to get closer. when other boats have approached, they have been mindful not to scare the school and stopped well short and casted into the school while drifting ofcours...

Yeah sh*t happens. Frustrating though no need to drive through the middle of the school or cut me off. Could have pulled up behind me and drifted alongside taking turns repositioning. Would have liked the hand to throw a few more lures in to at least try and get one. Is there some sort of etiquette...

surgeons knot to the swivel would not be the best option, try a locked blood or uni knot with 9 turns minimum fro braid. also worth checking you guides as there may be a crack in the insert which will be sharp and damage the line. I use a uni know to all terminal tackle in braid. Never had 1 slip o...
