Re: Need help getting into landbased sambos.
I was seeing the backing with my casts on Friday morning with the wind behind my back. 20lb line, 4000 size shimano sedona reel. I don't know how much line was on there in the first place (guessing around 100m), but I had it respooled on the way home with 200m of 15lb, after having the backing strip...

Re: Need help getting into landbased sambos.
My understanding is that the 2500, 4000 sizes etc are based on shimano reels. Other brands size their reels differently which can get really confusing .They'll generally have an equivalent reel though, so have a look at a shimano 4000 and pick something similar in size

Re: Any salmon on the surf beaches yet?
Arrived fashionably late, said hi to Dougie, third cast was a hook up. Lost it unfortunately, then no touches till I landed a monster (pictured below) near the Cape schank end. Did see a couple in the high 30 cm landed, and one at least 45cm. Stayed till 12 for no further action. Should really get m...

Re: Bream spots in the SE of Melbourne
Didn't end up going. Picked up a couple of cala at Mornington instead. My one and only bream was from balcombe on a squidgy Bug a few weeks back. Plenty to be seen but only one fish was fooled. Will try to make it back later this week.

Bream spots in the SE of Melbourne
Can anyone suggest a spot that's good a decent chance of picking up a bream or two? I've tried patto with no success, don't want to go to Docklands or maribyrnong. I'm going to try balcombe today. Using sp and hb lures, no bait. Land based only. Pm if you prefer not to share publicly Cheers, Niroj

Re: Circle hooks
they work just fine on both mate. i've been using 3/0 as a general allrounder size fo the fish im after. certainly not too big for pinkies (or even bloody toadies for that matter). Not sure about the salmon as I haven't caught any on bait this year
