Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes

Two KGW trips during the last fortnight. Trip 1 ended up with a few small school whiting across from Nungurner. Trip 2 was saved by a 52 cm Flathead on a piece of prawn on a KGW rig. Also 2 Salmon and one very small KGW. One day!!!!! Sat evening I somehow slipped getting into my car on a gravel driv...

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Deceptively too sloppy for my 4.2 m tinny early this morning so turned around and headed back to the entrance. Finally found a few salmon close to the end of the East wall - after one for me and 3 for the seals I gave that idea away as well! I really need to use heavier line so I can get them into t...

We need you to send a school or three to Lakes Entrance - very quiet on the KGW here so far!

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes

Just had a chat to one of the fisheries inspectors that had been checking boats today in the usual whiting spots. A short version of his response was "what whiting!". None of the many boats checked had caught a KGW. Little motivation to put the boat in at present!

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes

Had another try for KGW at the usual spots for zero so ran up to Flanagan's Is and managed 2 small legal but not worth keeping KGW. On the plus side caught a decent Flattie on a flouro green plastic prawn in the shallows opposite the Barrier Landing. I checked out a couple of other boats who had don...

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes

Thanks for your comments guys - spent a few hours in my usual spots yesterday with no sign of KGW but a warm welcome from the Toadies. I did manage a 45cm Flathead on a whiting rig though so I enjoyed crumbed flattie fillets and chips last night!

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes

Locals like re-tired and Tackleberry might care to comment on this. At present, depending on the tide, the water close to Lakes Entrance is either very or a bit dirty or fairly clean - and a lot more dirty water to come. Not that there are a lot of KGW around so far this season but is this likely to...

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes

I see on FB that Lakes Charter had a pic of a decent KGW catch inside the Lakes system yesterday - time to go looking again!

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Sorry about your boat insurance issues Tackleberry. Well fish and chips for supper and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the Salmon fillets. Admittedly the original owner was bled properly and was very quickly filleted, dark meat cut out, and in the fridge. If treated properly it is quite t...
