i was there on sat, picked up a salmon 33cm from just after the breakwall bends, lots of other bites during that time too but no hookups. very frustrating as one rod would go off, and as i was replacing the eaten bait on one, the other would go. Guys fish from the end, and all the way along the outs...

would a couple of fat rubber bands work instead of tape/mono? I ask because I've seen recently that some reels have rubber strips on the spool for straight braid

mate i was there from around 2 to 7. i probably could have reassembled my pilchards with needle and thread, they were that pristine. didn't see anyone else catch either.
