Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes

Thanks everyone - something I noticed now that the water is clearer was that some of the weed beds around Fraser Is and The Barrier have either gone or are much reduced. My favorite KGW honey hole - about a 12 m diameter sand patch surrounded by week - is now several times the size and the weed is ...

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Well finally got out for a fish. Crossed the bar at daybreak. Ebb tide a bit bouncy even with the swell down to 1.2m. Headed east and smooth water once clear of the bar area. Stopped at the bluff reef for about half an hour, but nothing there, so headed up to Tyers and fished in 14 MTRS. It was pret...

Re: Flounder Tassie

Gave it another go and we managed 5 nice flounder for a couple of hours. Kids had fun.
Tried over at south arm last week, massive shallow bay. Saw heaps but all barely size.
Heading home in a week. Will be back chasing gummies offshore at Lakes and maybe some KGWs in the lake.

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

The temp plunged from 18 C to 13 C in 24 hours. Only explanation is an upwelling of cold water from the Bass Canyon offshore from eastern Vic. This would be caused by a strong east to west eddy down deep. Usually associated with increase in nutrients pushed from the deep to the surface. Fishing wise...

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Well over the years I have seen a lot of things at sea. This does take the cake. Yesterday wave rider buoy sea surface temp 18 C today 13 C. I thought the buoy sensor had failed, so checked the sea surface temperature map from BOM. Serious upwelling. Can see is over Portland way it is the same. I ha...

Flounder Tassie

I am down in Tassie for Xmas. Previous land based fishing, with grandkids ,south of Hobart has proved to be difficult. So I bought flounder lights and spears. No idea where to go. Had a bit of a look at the charts for shallow bays. Decided on snug bay for first go. Had to wait till nearly 10 pm for ...

Re: Offshore Lakes Entrance

Well it was crap out there. Still some wind swell. Rocking and rolling across the bar with all the flood water still going out. Caught one flathead and did an unintentional catch and release of a good size gummy. Had it up near the boat, grabbed the net , it did a final run and managed to tangle in ...
