Re: First mulloway for 2019
Not sure about age, but in NSW they have this length vs weight chart (not entirely correct in all cases, though): https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/recr ... ills/weigh

First mulloway for 2019
I haven't been able to fish much over the past year, apart from some Murray Cod trips (mostly due to a building project I've been working on), but finally got a chance to get out for a dedicated snapper / mulloway session yesterday. Incredibly (and this is only the second time in my life it has happ...

Re: Why do Murray Cod like cheese?
I think it has to do with the fat content of the cheese. The cod like it for the same reason that the shrimp do - lots of tasty calories.

Re: Can you eat snapper or pinkie at dockland?
People often seem to keep mulloway caught from the Yarra and Docklands - not sure why, as previous EPA studies have shown this species to be relatively contaminated compared with smaller fish like mullet. Snapper, on the other hand, are mostly a bay fish that come up the river with the tide at certa...

The fact is, we built it and they came. They will come again - and when they do, many wondrous hours of pain and frustration will be had by all - and also a couple of fish will be landed.

Re: 'cheating' for breams on nymph, sight fishing.
If you can find yourself some sandworm, you'll find that Docklands bream are no more fussy than Gippsland bream. I've caught bags of bream in the city with individual fish to 1.5kg using podworm in the past. Catching them on fly sounds like a different story, though!

If there are any bait fish around, it would also be worth throwing around some small metal lures for salmon and barracouta.

Re: Eels and the Japanese tourist.
I once kept a big eel like that at Marlo, and prepared it as unagidon (Japanese style eel on rice). It was one of the best tasting fish I've ever had - very white meat and delicious flavour. There is one thing to note for the unwary, though. I had some cuts on my fingers from and earlier session of ...
