I have fished lakes a fair bit I had. Caravan there years ago and can not remember ever catching a squid there is a bloke at work who has a house there he is also a fisherman I will ask him and get back to you

Depends on time of day the steam packet channel fishes well early and evenings most of the season. the spoil grounds between port and Clifton springs I like in the evenings. The Clifton springs ramp is free but can be a bit shallow at low tide the point Richards rd boat ramp at Portarlington is also free I launch there all the time just don't turn right to early head for the red stick there is a big sand bar there very shallow I have a 6+mt boat and have no problem.
