Take a few different colored jigs with you to cover all options as certain colours work better on some days. If your fishing fast flowing areas you will need a larger size jig such as 3.5 or 4.

If your worried about the pebbles damaging the hull the only thing I can think of is wearing a pair of waders and when the boat is off the trailer drop the anchor down in water deep enough for the boat while you go and park the car. Same thing when you come back.
