a few trip reports
It's been a while. I haven't done much fishing in the last 6 months, and a lot of what I did do was landbased rather than from the yak. I've been spending most of my weekends up to now looking for deer, unfortunately the closest I got was a couple on private land which I couldn't shoot. I decided du...

Re: Portarlington 17th
How do you clean the gurnard? Got a few of those spiky bois and just casually snipped the line above the hook if it wasn't flatty flickable. I've heard they are tasty but I don't trust myself to handle them without being stabbed. I snip/snap off the dorsal fins after I’ve brain spiked it. The other...

Re: Plenty of pinkies, should we be raising the size limit?
Gronks would still pillage the smaller pinkies even if they did increase the size limit. They're easy to catch and judging by the number of times you see some plonker on social media posing in front of a bunch of tiny fish they've kept it must be keeping them happy. No as the release survival rate i...

Re: SALMON AND MACKEREL TIPS
9 to 10' spinning rod and a 4000 size reel is the way to go.
Smaller reels don't tend to have a great retrieve speed so you'll find yourself winding really hard to get the lure moving.

Re: Boating ethics
I don't mind the boats anchoring close when I'm in the yak, sometimes you get a bloke just taking the **** and parking where you're casting though which is a annoying. In terms of safety in yaks with the wake/swell from boats, in my opinion it's just part of being on the water and kayakers need to p...
