I have spent many happy holidays there. Just recently the whole valley was flooded when the mouth was blocke...

Not free but only $13.70 per night. I've never been there but it looks as though it could be alright.

Free camping on the Gellibrand river. It's a pretty spot. Also in the same area there's Lake Elizabeth, also with free camping.

Re: Silly question question about land based surf fishing...
Usually you just walk along the beach, casting slugs as you go, until you find a school of salmon. Sometimes you can see them in the waves.
I like to fish light for salmon, using a 9' rod rated for 6kg line and up to 20g slugs. It's a lot more fun IMO.

Re: Fly fishing NZ
Fly fishing is very addictive. I started on trout, as many do. These days I mainly fly fish in the salt for anything that will take my fly.

Re: Roadtrip from Adelaide to Melbourne
Johanna is a great surf fishing location with National Park camping right there. You really need a northerly wind there to help calm the surf, otherwise the surf is full of sand partials making it unproductive. I nearly came to grief at Johanna one night when I was fishing for gummies. Somehow a big...

Ram raid at Tackle World Geelong
At around 2am a van with 2 people inside rammed into the doors of Tackle World Geelong in Shannon Ave Geelong West. A number of rods and reels were taken. The van was later found, burnt out at nearby Corio. https://www.bay939.com.au/news/local-news/105538-ram-raiders-tackle-local-fishing-store?fbcli...

Re: Otways trout
If you intended to camp at Lake Elizabeth and I have put you off going down into there, there is an alternative free camping spot at Stevenson's falls, which isn't too far away. You go past the West Barwon dam towards Apollo Bay until you get to Barramunga, which isn't very far from Forrest. You tur...
