It's been a while

It has been a fair while since I have been squid fishing landbased. My son said he wanted to go for a squid fish, land based. So the next decision was where to go? Decide to start at Sorrento and work our way up the bay, if Sorrento did not produce. When we arrived there were perhaps a dozen people ...

Re: PPB swell - please explain

One morning I checked the wind before heading out and it was at about 7 km's/hr. I launched in complete darkness and headed out of the Patterson river only to be confronted with at least metre waves. Waves on PPB are created by the wind, and it is the wind that gives the waves their energy, however ...

Persistence!

Have a talk to them at Fishing Fever.

The best sign that the gars are about are scales on the pier.

Re: Victorian Boat Ramps 2017

Apologies if this is the wrong place, just thought I’d save starting a new thread with a “hopefully” easy question. I might get the chance Saturday morning to venture down the south end of the bay and would like to know the best place to launch with a 6m fibreglass boat. The wind and weather look g...

Many years ago, we were bush walking this time of year in the high country and got snowed on, fortunately it lasted one day.

Re: fri/sat night westernport

Decent haul there. But mate you sound like a liability. Yes the report mightn't of been as severe as predicted but when rednecks think they are untouchable than when sh*t does hit the fan it can go pear shaped quickly. You should come down my neck of the woods with that attitude and wonder why you ...

Re: Headlights and other lighting options

Was wondering any of you install headlights or spotlights in your boats to help light the way when it is dark? If so, what are the suggested options? Thanks! This has already been discussed. In short headlights or spotlights are useless as there is not anything for them to be reflected off of. They...

Re: Import or Local

The winners in this game are the importers, as they operate a closed shop, preventing anyone else from competing with them. Take books for example, once two importers controlled the trade, thus they were able to charge what they liked. There is an economic theory about how competition is suppose to ...

Re: Snapper Fishing After Heavy Rain

It must be remembered that the dirty fresh water will float on top of the salt water. Take the Patterson River for example, the fresh will push the salt water towards the Railway bridge and that is where the bream will be. One of the best landbased sessions, I had was fishing off the end of Franksto...

Headed out this morning. Wind was quite low but the swell was bigger than expected.

Can anyone help a newby understand why this is?
Should I be checking swell readings at the mouth of the bay for an indicator?

Any guidance would be awesome!
