Re: Help! - Fishing off Altona
My usual method of targeting flatties is to fish an active padanoster rig out the side whilst at the same time I like to have a soft plastic minor (3-4 inches) just dragging along the bottom as the boat drifts along. You'll tend to get more on the padanostor with bait, but the fish you get on the SP...

Re: Help! - Fishing off Altona
Hey Jeremy. For starters you need to get an understanding of the bay topography off Altona. Basically Altona Bay (from Altona to Pt Cook) is fairly flat, relatively shallow, and mixed sand/grass. There are some reefy areas, mainly at the Seaholme end & close to the shoreline (extending out 1/2 to 1k...

Re: Baitcasters vs egg beater reels
While I am looking at a couple of new rods and reels - I am seeing more and more bait caster reels in combos. My last experience with them was many, many years ago.....end result is there is one somewhere on the bottom of the Plenty River Bangg birds nest and tangles all it seemed to be good for. H...

Gotta agree. Chater Special + 6-10 ugly stick would come in under the $250 mark & pretty much handle anything in WP.Nude up wrote:Mo tackle have charter specials for $134 delivered leaves $120 for a rod pick up a silstar 701 overhead rod for about $70 will stop anything in westernport no worries

Re: advice on budget gummy tackle
I hate spin gear for Gummies, especially in Wp. Charter specials on ugly stick model GB1706 are my weapons of choice. I also prefur OHs but a bit more old school - I use penn jigmasters for my lighter gummy gear 8 - 10 Kg I use 501s with 20 lb mono on some cheap Ebay Sambo rods http://i967.photobuc...

They're all good knots that won't let ya down if tied properly.
The secret is to tie em properly, so use the one you can tie best.

Re: Fishing Reels and Sales Jargon, enough already !!!
If yer worrired about ackronyms in the fishing reel industry I'd suggest never trying to buy a new car or 4wd, it woiuld send ya insane. It's just marketing of features that's all. Don't sweat it. More important things in life to worry about.

Re: Losing fish while playing them on light line.
Surprisingly large fish can be caught with a farily high degree of success by the experienced angler. Changing the angle of the line makes the fish fight the water as well as the line. Big game anglers achieve it by having a knowledgeable captain skippering the boat properly. Light lines generally a...
