Denis, I,m not in your league with Whiting but have always favoured Cuttlefish as the ultimate bait for them, particularly the long candles.

A year or so back, a member posted a photo of an olive green jig with yellowish broad bands edged in black. You made a mistake throwing back, they are the best eating freshwater fish IMO.
The skin is like armourplate, don,t attempt to scale, it,s a waste of time.
Fillet like any perch or bream then take skin off, it,s not difficult and you will be rewarded
with the sweetest fish you will eat.

What works for you is correct, however the dominant hand should never have to leave the rod, no need to ever change hands after the cast. The winding hand only lays line on the reel while the strength stays with controlling the fish. It,s common sense but hard to convince those that have grown up go...

Calamari goes back to the Latin and evolved into the Italian and Greek over time.
Calamari and Arrow are Squid, there are a number of sub species but a Squid is a Squid.
Maybe Calamari sounds better in a restaurant?
