Re: What's the catch!!
Interestingly I had the home & car insurance bills come in this week. Rates were up by close to 20% in both cases, how do they justify this? Anyway I shopped around on the net, then lo & behold, my wife started to get ads for insurance via her ipad. Just goes to show, whatever you start searching wi...

offshore from Lakes today
Hi all, I had another trip offshore from Lakes today, it was very cold on the water but I layered up. I put the boat in at around 8.00 am and headed out to the 6 mile reef area. It was quiet at first but after about 1 hour the pinkies came on the bite, not big, 30 -35 cm but fun nonetheless. As alwa...

Sharks & rusty hooks
Hi, I am planning to do a bit of shark fishing, but when I went to rig up all my hooks were rusty which means the coating has failed and bare metal is exposed. Will this be off putting to sharks? I understand they can detect very weak electric fields which could result from the electrochemical corro...

Lakes offshore yesterday.
Hi everyone. I went out from Lakes yesterday, it was glassy calm, I was able to tilt back the motor and let it rip for once without jarring out my fillings. I fished the offshore reefs, there were plenty of pinkies about ranging from undersize to around 37 cm. I kept a few for a feed, and also one o...

Finally made it down to Lakes.
Hi all. I finally got down to Lakes, I fished offshore a few K's west of the entrance, there were plenty of boats about so I figured they must be catching something, and this was the area where I bagged out on gummies last time I made it out so I felt pretty optimistic. Anyway, I caught plenty of th...

Gippsland Lakes mussels
Hi All. Once there were stacks of mussels on the jetties & docks all around Paynesville and if you were chasing whiting it was a simple matter of reaching down and grabbing a couple of hands full for bait. I noticed that sometime last winter they all disappeared from around Paynesville. No big deal ...

Lakes entrance bar
Hi all. I was thinking of going offshore from Lakes but note the notice to mariners that "Mariners are advised that following the recent severe weather event environmental conditions have caused the TSHD Tommy Norton to abort dredging operations temporarily." and the webcams are down "Due to technic...

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes
I also had a fish this morning, I drove to Lakes and launched there, the skate park boat ramp is still closed, how long does it take to rebuild a ramp? This has been going on since before Xmas, maybe it would have been better to fix it during winter rather than during the peak holiday period. After ...

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes
They were on a mission to get caught this morning for sure, I had my first one after about 30 sec, I had not even had time to get my second line in, I bagged out in about 90 mins and left them biting.
Cheers

Re: Hardest fighting fish in vic
Salt, the good old eagle ray would have to be up there, and they fight dirty the way the circle around the back of the boat crossing all your other lines to create a massive tangle.
