Re: Self servicing inflatable jackets

Which regulatory department are introducing this? How many have been detected and fined for not servicing? If required surely a short course could be introduced to qualify and authorise self inspection. We all don't live near the coast or in regional centres. The regulatory authority is TSV. Enforc...

Preparing the boat for the season

I have been away up in QLD since May. Up there to avoid the Vic weather. Before went I removed pretty much everything from the boat and stored it in the shed. This has turned out a good move as now I am cleaning up the boat and going through everything before stowing it back. So far I have : service...

Re: Do Charters Use Burley Pots?

On the boat I help out on, mostly no. If you have 8-10 people fishing each with two baits, between lost baits and dropped baits plus juice and bits from the bait board, you effectively are burleying . Putting more in usual attracts rubbish fish.

Re: Self servicing inflatable jackets

I think it will lead to less life jackets getting looked after. It is easy to do your own on a weekend over winter sitting inside in the warmth. If this goes ahead then you will have to ring someone to find out when they can be done, drive to the place , drop them off, then drive back later to pick ...

Self servicing inflatable jackets

I have been informed that the Self servicing of Inflatable Life Jackets is going to be disallowed. Currently Coast Guard and VMS personal are being trained and certified to do Life Jacket Servicing. This will be done for a small fee. I am not sure of when this will happen or what the case is for bra...

Re: WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL THING YOU HAVE REELED IN ON A LURE?

My brother was trout fishing on the Mitta Mitta . He had a couple of trout and the fire was going . As he was cooking the trout for lunch , noticed his line had a bit of weight on it like a stick had caught on it. Reeled in and found a six pack of beer tangled in the line. 10 minutes later he was si...

Re: Gippsland Lakes Commercial Netting Ban Another Step Closer

Copy pasting for fyi purpose only: Legislation to end commercial netting of fin fish in the Gippsland Lakes passed it's second reading yesterday. As there has been some discussion on social media about the fairness of the compensation offer we thought some of you might be interested in the formula ...

Re: Gippsland Lakes Commercial Netting Ban Another Step Closer

I have lived and fished the Gippsland Lakes since 1961. I am not expecting much change to rec fishing from removing the last few commercial fishers from the system. Nothing is changing from an environmental point of view. Breading conditions for bream will not change. The system is slowly turning in...
