Mounting a radar on an open top tinny

So I went out a lot on my month off with my new tinny. Lots of fun exploring Western Port much further than I ever could with the kayak. Did a few night trips as well. It's pretty quiet out there at night which is nice, but as I've discovered there are idiots that don't display nav lights which make...

Re: Retrieve etiquette

From my perspective, at public boat ramps there is no etiquette with respect to retrieve priority. The etiquette is the car queue. Eg even if someone gets back at the pier after you but gets their car first and they are first in the queue then that is the way it is. And as you say, the person that ...

Re: Retrieve etiquette

Boat ramp rage is real. Some people are just angry all the time regardless what we do. Note: I don't have a boat, so I don't know much, but know enough whenever I got around boat ramp. On the yak I never had an issue. There was always somewhere to launch or retrieve, plus I was pretty quick about g...

Retrieve etiquette

I took my two young boys out from Warneet this afternoon. It's my fourth trip out and I think I've got the launch and retrieve down pretty well. But I've been going at pretty quiet times, so no issues. This afternoon I came in and someone was retrieving their boat. I parked a little down the pier, b...

Re: Patterson river mouth

Well I'm technically unemployed now (I have a new job starting in four weeks, so not a big deal), so my plan is to launch in Western Port tomorrow. Seems to be a southerly, so I'm thinking Hastings is probably the best best (all tide launch, etc). Winds don't look too bad in the morning when I plan ...

Re: Patterson river mouth

Thanks guys. Never done PPB before. Guess there is a lot more "fetch" than Westernport and less places to hide. I've been out on the kayak in 50km/h southerly winds off Coronet Bay before. It came on pretty suddenly when I was about 5km out, which was wet and bumpy, but I never felt in any danger. D...

Re: Patterson river mouth

I'm normally a kayaker, but decided to get a stink boat to cover more ground. Only chose Patterson River as there are heaps of ramps, it's relatively close to home, and it seemed pretty quiet (for obvious reasons). As my maiden voyage it wasn't a bad - worked out launching and retrieving and it went...

Re: Patterson river mouth

It had a reasonable onshore breeze (maybe 15 knots). I've looked at webcams around the bay though and most other places didn't seem as bad as what I was going though, though most looked the worst around the time I was heading out. The tide was going out, so perhaps the river draining out against the...

Patterson river mouth

So launched my boat for the first time today at Patterson River. It was reasonably quiet so seemed like a good opportunity to practise a launch and retrieve. I also wanted to punt around in the bay for the engine break in. However, as soon as I hit the river mouth the waves were pretty extreme. I th...

Re: Trolling motor for Westernport?

I'm thinking the 80 might be the way to go. I do a bit of everything, bait, lures and maybe even some fly fishing in the lakes eventually.
