Re: Melbourne Boat Show 2023

Went. Is crap. Only discussion I had outside of buying Rui jigs and chin weights was complementing offshore boats nz on their amazing welds and trailers. Ridiculously cool gear compared to aussie offerings.

The price of new boats can dead set **** off haha

Re: Hook size for Whiting

Funnily enough I hunted down, with great pain the exact mustad hooks Dennis raved about (was out of stock nation wide for quite some time) and have now had a quiet giggle to find he has moved on from them.

But yeah. Kl1/0's or the Mustad long shanks. If memory serves it was size 4.

Re: Fishing first-aid kit - what extra or different things would you bring specifically for fishing injuries?

Personally I think first aid kits carry too much of the stuff that just goes crappy over time. Eg 50 cheap rubbish bandaids with zero adhesion. I've added to mine over the journey and life lessons. I try to keep the weight down so it's not ludicrous. Here's what I keep in the first aid kit I throw i...

Re: What should I spool a Saragosa 8k with to target land-based snapper and gummies?

I'd put 400 of 40lb tasline on personally. I ran 50lb fins and power pro for years on those sized reels. The tasline has next level smoothness

Related to the increase in both kings and tuna perhaps?

Just spitballing.

Re: Where are the squid (Mordialloc)

I've noticed a big squid shortage over the past couple of years in both bays.

They are still there but the frequency of catching good numbers has reduced significantly.

Re: Boat battery, what’s the difference?

Generally speaking AGM's aren't designed for cranking. If the outboard isn't a monster it should be fine. Don't rate the kings battery's at all though. Had a 120ah agm for about 3 years and binned it recently. Got 6-7yo full river 120's still going. Personally I've always preferred having a second b...

Re: catching live cicadas for bait

What's the benefit? Pain to keep alive and Less work throwing a cicada lure around instead of cicada catching.

Was donging some trout last weekend and over the couple hour sesh watched about 5 cicadas float by on the surface. Didn't see any get hit.

Re: landbased whiting

Without giving away the exact location I was snorkeling some shallow reef the other day in mornington area and on the edge of reef where it met sand. 15m from shore I spotted a school of 100-150 whiting. Most in the 25-28 range with a few stonkers mixed in. Right next to a packed beach. Don't be afr...
