Re: What is the most important thing you'd spend $$$ on?

I don't tend to spend huge money on fishing gear but as a kayak fisho the most important things were - quality kayak ( built for purpose ) most fishing kayaks are not built for distance or more extreme places ie off shore or surf launches at times I do both -- to add to that a quality.paddle also ma...

Re: Home & Fish and / or Camp & Fish?

Mostly local for me as I fish almost every W/E in Westernport by kayak and not just to fish but I use it as a bit of fitness training - a group of us have done a week at South West Rocks in NSW 5 times over the last 8 years with Covid stopping us a bit over the lock downs - We rented a house each ti...

I reckon the most testing condition is when the fish are biting hot, you got busted and need to retie asap while your mate is catching one after another :rf:
Never really had that problem yet Sebb - I normally have a spare rod ready to go while re rigging

Re: SC knot vs FG knot. What do you use?

More often than not I use the FG knot it's easy enough to tie - I've replaced leaders while fishing on the kayak off shore in swell and wind with out any problem - thats probably the most testing conditions I've found the tie any knots -

Looking at Friday 07/04, on the left - Windfinder, then Willyweather.
How do they get it so differently, which one you'd be inclined to trust?
by the way a week out I wouldn't trust ether - a lot can change over that time frame

Re: Basic Kayak

It sounds like he's just going to be paddling in the shallows on a nice beach day. He's not going 10k off shore. I don't think he wants the added responsibilty of carting around a big heavy kayak or having to buy a trailor. He probably only wants to spend a few hundred bucks, the sea flow will do h...

Re: Basic Kayak

do the quick sums 125 kg max load 100 kg your kayaker 17 kg weight of the boat ( yes it will be in the equation ) and least a kg for the paddle so that is now 118 kg from 125 leaving 7 kg for extra weight like wet clothing over dry and we haven,t even thought about fishing gear or a bottle of water ...

Re: Which Hobie??

Hi Lenny, to make your decision even harder, there is no perfect kayak out there. If you are planning on car topping the kayak, Also worth keeping in mind is if you plan on car topping and saltwater fishing, the saltwater will dribble off the kayak and onto the roof of your car, promoting rust wher...

Did you get the big fella on the run in to the flood tide?
tide was still on the rise at the time - there may have been others around but there were a lot of small gummies to beat them to a bait

it's always a nice surprise to get that first red for the season though
