Looking to give soft plastics another go... is braid line absolutely necessary, or is it possible to use just fluro carbon line?

Thanks for your responses all! I've stuck with the 3-5kg and will see how it goes this weekend. Which brings me to another question... I've spooled the reel with 8lb Daiwa Sealine mono - I can't be bothered screwing around with braid a the moment after much frustration trying braid on my last reel. ...

fished at Philip Island for the first time last weekend. Fished at Cleeland Bight off the shore. Started about an hour and a half after low tide.....got half dozen whiting, a nice travally, and a big run that broke our line (my friend reckons it was fighting as he reeled it in, so wouldnt be a ray)...

I previously read postive reviews about that particular Shimano combo (Sienna/Catana) in other threads, but I was under the impression it was more of a soft plastic suited combo... If you guys think it will also suit my mainly bait fishing purpos...
