Yes, it gets stocked with rainbow trout in the 2nd and 3rd school holidays. Usually gets fished out pretty quick like most stocked lakes so your chances of getting a trout would be low at this time of year. As others said the more you fish the more you will learn, one of my favourite things about fishing is that every species requires knowledge on unique locations, techniques, times ect. to be able to catch them consistently. Mate I run a Daiwa Gen Black Itchy Twitchy 1-3kg with a Daiwa Exceler 2000 for that kind of fishing. Both the rod and the reel are fantastic for the price. I run 6lb braid and have never had a problem.

I've heard that Jim Crow Creek near Newstead/Daylesford holds a few trout, I've been meaning to fish it for a while but haven't gotten around to it.
