Re: Apollo bay whiting

Caught a few landbased around Point Bunbury. Reportedly great kgw fishing around Marengo reef sanctuary, but am yet to try myself. Fresh squid and food grade prawn(sometimes as a cocktail bait) has done the most damage. Pop into the surf/tackle shop on the right as you come into town as they usually...

Re: Downrigger alternative for kayak

Recently been contemplating something similar for my boat to chase kingies. Been looking at the Alvey wide spool boat reels and think Im going to match it to a super short stiff sidecast boat rod and load it with 50-100lb mono, downrigger weight and quick release clip.

Re: Why not...?

Nice score! Was checking out the skis set up for fishing at last years boat show. Pretty versatile considering their size. Jet ski's are heaps fun even if they are the pariahs of the bay.

Re: Forgot the anchor

Forgot to click the ratchet over on winch rope on NYE and heard a strange noise when driving off the ramp at fishos beach. Stopped and got out an boat had slid 1.5 ft ft off the trailer but still off the ground. Clicked ratchet over and winched it on but could've been a nightmare if I didn't stop t...

We need a Wooly of the Week award for stuff like this. Glad you're ok.   Think I could make the shortlist for Wooly award of the month. Forgot to trim my outboard up when launching and dropped the skeg on the ramp before Christmas. 5 mins later when leaving the floating pontoon, ...

Re: Fav all round rod.

Nitro custom squid is my ting and squid rod. Landed a small gummy with it in the boat while whiting fishing. Amazingly haven't broken it considering how often it gets thrown around in the back of my car and hitting the pier pylons from over zealous rod action.

Re: I brought Kmart squid jig razorback is good?

Can clearly remember when JW 'razorback' jigs made their way into tacklestores and Kmart when they hit the shelves in Australia some 20 years ago. The original razorbacks came in either super shiny red foil belly and 'pearl'(multi-coloured) belly. These jigs were marketed as being more effective tha...

Re: Interesting Afternoon at Princes Pier

Thanks for the report! Caught my first fish on SP at princess pier many moons ago. Like yourself, was also a silver trevally! Silver trevally have a soft mouth, unlike snapper/flathead/salmon etc, and they also fight hard so you have to be careful not to exert too much pressure or you can pull the h...
