Re: No mustad hooks for me
What do you think is a good, cheap brand? I'm a bit of a cheapskate but have had a few hooks snap on me over the years, including one recently that snapped while I was tying it to the line. I find myself going back to the pricier brands when this crap happens. When it comes to whiting I'm a cheapsk...

Re: MACQUARIE PERCH GIVEN STATEWIDE PROTECTED STATUS
I'd be highly surprised if there is a single macca left in the Upper Coliban.Paulanderson wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 6:57 amGreat to see this decision - Lake Dartmouth is the only remaining large breeding population of Maccas. As to the Upper Coliban - well winning Tattslotto would be easier than catching a Macca!

Re: Nong bream
Used to love fishing the Nong around the Canning St bridge. Might have to give it another go soon if I can make the time for the right tide.

Bermagui, Merimbula, or Eden?
I'm thinking of doing a road trip in January, potentially to the NSW south coast and was wondering which of Bermagui, Merimbula, or Eden might suit a land-based fisher best? I usually chase basic species like bream but enjoy catching pinkies, flatties, silver trevally, aussie salmon, leatherjacket a...

Re: Home & Fish and / or Camp & Fish?
Mate I love me camping and I love me fishing but I've never really combined the two in the sense that I was camping right by the water with a rod in the whole time. Usually the camping is more drinking and smoking with a bit of fishing on the side. Would love to set up like some of those UK carp fis...

Re: Carp catastrophe
I suggest using a landing net next time. It can be a bit awkward reaching for a big fish with your bare hands. Easier to tire them out and then slip the net in behind them. Has never failed me, but then I've never gotten close to landing something 115cm long!

Docklands behind Marvel and along North Wharf. Maribyrnong River between Canning Reserve and Angler's Tavern. Kerferd Rd Pier at dusk. Portsea, Sorrento and Blairgowrie piers if you're happy to drive a bit further. All these places fish best on a rising tide in my experience, especially late afterno...

Re: Cornacarpio's Cumulative Carp Culling Caper
I've fished, walked and ridden my bike along the Yarra on and off for most of my life and can't say I've ever seen a snake swimming in it. I've read that they're capable but to see it in a photo like this gives me the shivers... Not only that, but he seemed very capable of swimming under the water ...

Agree with the other 2 responses. A noxious species like carp I'm pretty sure.
