Hi all, Thanks for your advice. I ended up using a 1/0 hook with a size 1 free sinker all the way to the hook. I think it was too light as it was hard to know when I hit the bottom. So now I'm really confused. I went to buy some silverfish from the local tackle shop and told the staff that I intended to fish for gar. No chance I'll be going for carp. I want to eat what I catch so I want to target one or two similar species. Thanks guys, I think gar and whiting it is. Pipis for bait just a different rig for each. I wasn't going to cast far either, just swing and drop. I used to catch gar as a kid but haven't heard anyone mention it so didn't know they were still about or maybe they're at the end of their run for the sea...
