Re: Jack ‘Yabbie’ Wells
YES, i met him a few times at Black Rock Ramp. He was a true gentleman. Gave advice freely, totally unpretentious, said "follow me and anchor close", caught about 6 or 7 whiting to my 1. A master. gave me loafs of bread once. His gear was so basic as was his boat. RIP Jack.

Re: Squiding In Apollo Bay???
Hey Adrian. I've just moved to Apollo Bay permanently. Hard to take. Like you I've been struggling to catch a squid off the same piers. I haven't even seen one yet. However, I'm getting my fishing kicks from spinning 4 salmon off either Marengo or Wild Dog beaches. It's pretty hot, at times, actuall...

Preparing, cooking and eating Salmon.
Its all in the preparation. They are delicous when eaten on the same day as caught. Beautiful sushi as well. Bleed the fish. Fillet the fish. Remove skin and then cut off all the blood from outside of fillet (beneath skin). The bigger the fillet the easier this is. Cut the fillet down center line an...

Black Rock (BR)
Fished BR twice this week. Sunday and Tuesday. Sunday: Caught bag limit of squid with some larger ones. Released the small ones. Any area with reefy bottom seems to hold squid. Polaroid glasses work well for seeing bottom. Water is /was clear though this will change if we get alot of rain. Ended up ...

Black Rock (BR)
Went out boating on Tuesday, 12.30-5.30pm. Weather was pretty good, mild northerly, blue skies. Tide coming in. Caught 5 squids pretty quickly on the favourite "mullet" coloured 3.5 jig. They were not totally on, playing and nipping at the jig but not taking it with abandon. I find a ebbing tide wor...
