Re: Non wire rig for toothies

I admit I used to chock up the hook (bigger bait-bigger fish thing) with hook covering amounts. Lost a few hookups that way. Once I started to only pin the bait by a little (even if it was a big bait) the hook-up rate rocketed PLUS corner of the mouth stuff most times too. This was for snapper but ...

Re: Non wire rig for toothies

If your fishing whole baits try and bridle your bait with a circle hook. Still have a chance of getting bitten off though but better odds than whacking it in the bait. I no it’s wire but works on fish sensitive to wire. I like to use a snelled rig with a light bit of wire only the length of your bai...

Re: Boat ramp Mallacoota?

I was told the shelf is closer at Mallacoota then bermie and eden Definitely not closer than bermi. Pretty sure bermi is about as close as the shelf gets to the main land. From memory around 20ks. Pretty sure coota and eden fairly similar distances as the previous post showed. You can measure dista...

Re: Paynesville report

A mate of mine fished duck arm last weekend and got a few flatties. He did say it was fairly slow though. Might be worth a try if you haven’t already

Re: Gaffs in fresh water Pffft

Who said the people you spotted with a gaff don’t fish in salt water also???? I don’t put my boat in the fresh but if you spotted it in there I can assure you the gaff would be there. All my gear stays in the boat and never leaves that way I’m not looking for something I should have

Re: Best knot for braid to thick leader (not FG)

I use the Albright knot and haven’t had a problem with it yet. It’s easy to tie and not to big going through the runners.

Re: Wow I didnt realise

That is absolutely ridiculous! If some half wit tried pulling up and anchoring that close to me potentially damaging my boat I would lose it. Don’t worry about the words of abuse you would receive the sinkers coming your way wouldn’t stop. I’ll happily stick to my local where I always get a car park...

Re: So what is happening offshore Lakes Entraqnce

Thanks for that Do you believe lakes is a little overfished? I don’t think it is. In the lake system possibly but I don’t fish in side. I’ve fished out of lakes in my own boat for 10 years and a few years in others before that. Some seasons are obviously better than others but that’s fishing. The w...

Re: So what is happening offshore Lakes Entraqnce

Boats hooked and headed off lakes tomorrow. Hopefully the rain holds off and the fish are chewing their heads off. Plan was to head to the pipe but after seeing the donkey of a schoolie come in today may reconsider location. Will post a report if I manage a few.

Re: Metung Fishing

Are you fishing land based or in a boat? Metung can fish well you just need to know where to fish.
