An anchor winch will be a godsend for the type of fishing you want to do.

Anyone I've met who has a winch says they would never go without one again.

Are you trimming your FG knot right back?

If it's done right it should run over the guides pretty smoothly. If you have more than the slightest bit of leader poking out it will catch.

Nice one mate. So you are a fan of eating them?

I've only ever caught a couple and used them for bait.... based on most people saying they are no good to eat. I've been thinking next time I get a decent size one I might have a taste.

I only spike flathead as it is very easy to locate their brain (or alternately whack their head with the handle end of the knife to knock them out) before putting them on ice. I don't really trust myself to get the brain of a snapper or any other fish and feel I would only cause it pain if I miss, ...

Look up a technique called Ike Jime. It's basically using a sharp object to deliver a fatal blow to the fish's brain. It is considered an almost instant, humane way to dispatch of a fish. In regards to storing take an esky with ice and create an "ice slurry" which is a little bit of sea/la...
