The overhead has an advantage of about 10% in maximum distance, there size and weight is generally better though with the newer high end thread lines are bridging this gap well. It takes a little more skill in controlling the reels so that gives you that feeling of being more in control of the cast...

Tackleberry I'd be surprised that the dam actually had Macquarie perch as they have never been available for stocking private dams - unless the fish were caught from the wild and placed there. and that's the perfect eating size the last one we tried eating was 9' never again it was dry as Stun, bleed and gut. Fill gut with ice, layer wet hessian bags or something over the fleshy parts or leave hanging in the water (risk it being taken by another though) and they're a lot better and nowhe...
