Re: Let's talk Whiting how-to

I asked a few questions and it turns out you were one and the same. Phil was meant to head out on the ting yeste...

Re: Let's talk Whiting how-to

One thing not mentioned (or I missed it) is not to throw back the undersized whiting while you’re still catching as it seems to scare the school off sometimes. I put the littleuns in the live tank or bucket of fresh seawater and return them before I move spots. Did anyone mention the pippy/squid coc...

Re: No slipping this mornin

I plant them and make a Whiting tree Ive had others ask me brfore -Refer a previous post of mine What do you do with the fish you catch? Thanks for a smartass reply to a perfectly legitimate question. I was curious, I presumed you ate them however your catch rate is so high that it seemed implausib...

Re: Tow vehicle recommendations

Re: Tow vehicle recommendations

Pretty sure your cheapest option is going to be a Ute. The turbo diesels are good but stay over 3 litres and avoid anything with a DPF. Common rail gives you the power but if an injector pump or injectors need replacing its gunna hurt your wallet. Keep the kms low if ya can find one ( I’m 240,000 km...

Re: Casting with small soft plastics

Check out the TD black Pinster. It’s short but it sure pings light plastics. Also consider dropping reel size to 1500. I use light braid and mono leader but I’m tempted to just run straight 6lb mono as the leader knot can be annoying and I’ve not yet convinced myself the advantages outweigh the hass...

Re: Squid vs calamari

I agree with 4litres breakdown. I attached a great little picture giving us a breakdown of Cephalopoda, the divergence between octopodiformes and decapodiformes and then further into our sepia cuttlefish and sepioteuthis which contain the southern reef squid, big fin reef squid and caribbean reef s...

Basically Cephalopod is their class, Southern Calamari is the common name for their species. Don’t they teach this stuff at school anymore?
