Re: Carp preparation
Carp is ok, boney as buggery though. Impossible to fillet. I have eaten it within hours of catching it, just rolled in flour and shallow fried. Tasted fine. Probably would be easiest if it was minced and used in patties. Not sure how it would go if frozen but can't see a problem given how it tasted...

Re: Carp preparation
so i you want to eat carp you have to take them home alive and flush them out over a week? there are other ways. the muddy taste comes from a chemical compound called geosmin. geosmin breaks down under acidic conditions, so all you have to do is take a cup of vinegar, dilute it with 2-3 liters of w...

Re: Central Victorian Storages
With these three lakes being only a half hour drive up the road from me, I'm quite familiar with them. Specifically Lauriston. Interesting what you say regarding Malmsbury providing bigger fish. Water levels have not been great in recent times, from my understanding mainly due to issues with the da...

Re: Yarra river this time of year
Does anyone have a feel for whether the fish go quiet as it gets colder? That's not a feel, that's a very well known scientific fact. Fish are unable to regulate their body temperature, so they are influenced by the temperature around them. If the water is warm, fish metabolism accelerates, feeding...

Obviously because they are more desirable to the anglers than the natives.mingle wrote:Fair enough, but why stock non-natives? Why have a closed-season for them?

I hope you are not just pontificating here and wrote that from your leaf hut in the bush since obviously cities are a blight upon nature.cobby wrote:Natural ecology of waterways and land should reign supreme over human enjoyment.

Re: Removing restrictions on trout.
Firstly there's no such thing as reverse racism. It's either racist or it's not. Secondly applying racism to fish is ridiculous in my opinion. what's your interpretation of OP's (an obvious troll but still) chain of thought that all non-native species should be automatically declared noxious? if th...

also, as far as trout restrictions go, let's not forget that we still have a bag limit of 5 for tench and roach in Victoria for christ's sake.

Re: Removing restrictions on trout.
i could never undestand the obsession with native fish. i take all fish at their face value, based on sport and eating qualities and i'll take trout over natives any day. saying that natives are better because they are, well, natives is nothing but a reverse racism. having said that, i think the fis...
