Also go as wide as you can on that plate to try and stay clear of prop wash. As far right as you can go looks to be in the middle of the strake, thats where you want to be

Well done on the trout, its not a yellowbelly its a carp hybrid, as it gets bigger it will develop the barbells at the side of the mouth

I use the berley bucket at the back of the boat but there is no hard and fast rules. Its all about finding out what suits your situation

Its definitely very effective for all species from flathead to tuna and everything in between. In your situation you would have pinkies coming right up in the water column and also very helpful when squidding.

I grew up fishing Brimbank park and I would say that your mullet is a roach. Plenty of them in there.

If your rod snapped its one of 3 things. 1. You are high sticking the rod when the fish wants to run 2. Even though you are saying the fish is taking line, the drag is too tight 3. Sh!t rod You shouldnt need to use any more than 12 lb mono as mainline if the drag is set right. Dont worry about braid...

Being an overhead reel you may want to make sure that you buy an overhead rod. The parabolic curve is totally wrong if you are using a standard spin reel surf rod with an OH reel. My dad made one of these in 100mm 40 years ago and I still use it. I wrap the guides in rags to prevent damage, this also lessens the room inside preventing the shaking around
