NSW coast - Bermagui or Jervis Bay?
Hi all, i've been given the all clear to find a fishing friendly spot along the NSW coast for the summer holiday (yes, I know we're a bit late with he planning ;) ). So, I was thinking Jervis Bay or Bermagui, basically anything within a 4 hour drive from Canberra. What do you guys think? Any other s...

Re: South Coast fishing?

Re: Reel sizes
Ok, I've posted on this previouslkyy, so apologies to thopse that have read it. I'll try to keep it short. Two 'Rules of three' whcih we can use to guide us on tackle selection. First 'Rule of three' states that we can generally handle fish to 3 times the line weight we're using. Ie we can expect t...

Re: Reel sizes
Mate, given the age of that reel, I would get the shop to give it a service, and update the drag washers if possible. Given the age of the rod, I'd stick to mono. I think the guides on rods of that vintage won't handle braid as it wasn't around back then and a few big runs will have the braid weari...

Re: Reel sizes
thanks guys, yes, whiting that makes sense! so, the main different between reel sizes is their capacity to hold more line, and the bigger they are, the heavier they would be, right? so the big surf reel is 'necessary' to cast a mile, because that's how much line I need? And conversely, if I'm flick...

Re: Reel sizes
Thanks DougieK, you beat me to it...that's exactly the kind of thing I was after! I also have a 4000 reel on my T-Curve revolution 10 foot (for surf and pier fishing), and a 3000 reel on a 7 foot abu tracker (telescopic) which i bought a few years ago as an all rounder. It's interesting to see the d...
